Medicolegal Death Investigators

News Image

The role of the Medicolegal Death Investigator (MDI) is to investigate any death that falls under the jurisdiction of the medical examiner, including all suspicious, violent, unexplained, and unexpected deaths. They are the Forensic Center’s first responders. They seek, gather, document pertinent circumstantial, historical, and other data; aiding in identifying and determining cause and manner of death. Our MDIs work alongside local agencies to ensure scenes are thoroughly investigated and to find the decedent’s next of kin. The MDI preserves evidence and anticipates future questions by communicating and coordinating with the Medical Examiner. Our MDI team is professional, articulate, confident, and compassionate.
