ESP Project: Permeable Pavers

Permeable Pavers

Permeable pavers are an alternative to traditional asphalt, concrete and other hard surfaces used for walking, driving, and parking. Permeable pavers allow rain water to infiltrate into the gaps between the pavers and into layers of stone and soil below. Permeable pavers are an attractive solution to ponding rain water in areas that require hard surfaces. This alternative is gaining popularity in both commercial and residential settings as an aesthetically pleasing drainage control practice.

Pavers can be made of brick, stone or concrete and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Knox County Stormwater has a cost-share option for permeable pavers through the Environmental Stewardship Program.
