J. Myers Morton was born and raised in Knox County. He graduated from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1988. From 1988 through 1990, he was in general practice with the law firm Morton, Lewis, King and Krieg. From 1990 through 2015, he practiced law with his father George W. Morton, Jr., with Morton & Morton, PLLC. For a period of time before his death, his uncle, L. Clure Morton, retired from the federal bench and guided him through his practice at Morton & Morton, PLLC.
