Disabled passenger (non-driver) with a permanent medical disability may apply for placards only. The fee for a two (2) year placard is $26.50 for the first two years and $3.00 for each renewal every two (2) years thereafter. For passengers with a disability that is of a temporary nature due to a surgery or fracture, the cost for a six-month placard is $10.00. Temporary placards may be renewed one (1) time for a $10 fee. Disabled passengers must also complete the Application for Disabled Driver Plate and/or Placard, which can be accessed by clicking on the link or contacting one of our six office locations.
Disabled Driver Plates are issued to Knox County vehicle owners who are permanently confined to a wheelchair, able to walk only with difficulty, or with vision of not more than 20/200 with corrective lenses. Owners with dependents qualifying as permanently disabled may also apply for disabled vehicle plates. The cost for a Disabled Driver Plate is the same as the cost for a standard passenger license plate. Free disabled plates and placards are available to Knox County residents who are permanently confined to a wheel chair. Complete the Application for Disabled Driver Plate and/or Placard and bring it in with you to register your vehicle.
