The Knox Adolescent Partners in Prevention Initiative began in 1991 as a community coalition to address the issues surrounding teen pregnancy and parenting. It is part of a state-wide effort of the Tennessee Department of Health and is housed at the Knox County Health Department.

KAPPI's Mission and Vision

Mission:

To promote positive youth development, including teen pregnancy prevention, by increasing community awareness of adolescent health issues, increasing access to adolescent health resources, and facilitating family conversations.

Vision:

A community where all adolescents have healthy minds, healthy bodies, and healthy relationships.

KAPPI's Objectives

  1. Promote total community involvement in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy
  2. Reduce adolescent pregnancy in Tennessee
  3. Improve coordination and the services available for pregnant adolescents and adolescent parents
  4. Sponsor annual conferences
  5. Develop multimedia campaigns and educational programs
  6. Work with the medical, educational, and faith community, as well as parents
  7. Partner with more than 30 Knox County agencies and organizations
  8. Conduct an annual retreat every year that allows coalition members to assist in the development of goals and objectives for the year

KAPPI Coalition meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 12 noon EST.
