Election Schedule

2019 - City of Knoxville Regular (General) Election

City of Knoxville elections are in odd-numbered years. All terms of office are 4 years. The Regular (General) election is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of every odd-numbered year. All City voters can vote in all races.

Offices on the ballot in 2019:

  • City Mayor (top two (2) candidates from Primary on ballot UNLESS one candidate received a majority (50% plus one) of all votes cast in Primary Election)
  • City Council, Seat A (top two (2) candidates from Primary on ballot)
  • City Council, Seat B (top two (2) candidates from Primary on ballot)
  • City Council, Seat C (top two (2) candidates from Primary on ballot)
  • City Council, District 5 (top two (2) candidates from Primary on ballot)

Schedule:

  • Wednesday, August 7, 2019 - First day to request an absentee ballot
  • Monday, October 7, 2019 - Final day to register to vote before election
  • Wednesday, October 16, 2019 - First day of Early Voting period
  • Tuesday, October 29, 2019 - Final day to request an absentee ballot
  • Thursday, October 31, 2019 - Final day of Early Voting period
  • Tuesday, November 5, 2019 - Election Day

 

Knox County Election Commission – 2020 Election Schedule

Notes:

  • Information contained herein is subject to change. Please consult the Election Commission website for the latest information.
  • Both independent and partisan candidates have the same qualifying deadlines as listed for each office.
  • Offices and referendum questions are subject to be added to the ballot of any election.
  • State Law requires municipal elections and school board elections to be non-partisan.
  • Vacancy elections are to fill the remainder of an unexpired term.

 

2020 - Presidential Preference Primary and County Primary Election

The Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) is held on the first Tuesday in March every four years (2020, 2024, etc.) The Knox County Primary election in these years is held in conjunction with the PPP.

  • Monday, October 14, 2019 – First day to pick up a nominating petition for all local offices from the KCEC office
  • Wednesday, December 4, 2019 - First day to request an absentee ballot
  • Thursday, December 12, 2019 at NOON - Candidate Qualifying Deadline
  • Thursday, December 19, 2019 at NOON - Candidate Withdrawal Deadline
  • Monday, February 3, 2020 - Final day to register to vote before election
  • Wednesday, February 12, 2020 - First day of Early Voting period
  • Tuesday, February 25, 2020 - Final day to request an absentee ballot
  • Tuesday, February 25, 2020 - Final day of Early Voting period
  • Tuesday, March 3, 2020 - Election Day

The Federal/State Primary, County General, and Town of Farragut Municipal Election is held on the first Thursday in August of every even-numbered year.
