Building and Fire System Plans Review Program

Knox County Fire inspectors review construction, renovation, and fire protection system plans and designs to verify code compliance. Reviewers consult with architects and contractors in the design stage and the review stage to eliminate code violation issues prior to the construction phase. Plans are reviewed for the following:

  • New commercial buildings
  • Additions to commercial buildings
  • Commercial buildings -shells only
  • Change of occupancy - commercial buildings
  • Fire protection system installations - commercial buildings
  • Fire detection system installations - commercial buildings
  • Flammable and combustible liquid tank installation
  • Propane tank installation
  • Commercial tent and air supported structure installation
  • Commercial kitchen hood and duct installation

Plans, revisions, and addendums are submitted for review to Knox County Code Administration. They are routed through the Fire Prevention Bureau and the Code Administration for review.
