Sherry Witt is the Knox County Register of Deeds, becoming the first female ever elected to that office in August of 2008. A native of Knoxville, Sherry is a graduate of Fulton High School and holds a B.A. degree from the University of Tennessee. She has also earned a Certified Public Administrator designation from the University of Tennessee Center for Government Training, and is a graduate of the Local Government Leadership Program.
Including her tenure as Chief Deputy, Sherry has been an employee of the Register of Deeds office since 1984. She is a former President of the East Tennessee Register’s Association, and in 2014 Sherry served as President of the Tennessee Register’s Association. She is currently serving on the C.O.A.T. Education Committee. In 2014 she was named Outstanding Register of the Year.
Sherry’s community involvement continues to be an important part of her life. She is a 20-year member of the Advisory Board of the Knoxville Boys and Girls Clubs, and also serves on the board for the Free Medical Clinic of America, as well as the Knox County Schools Career and Technical Education Partnership. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of America, and has been a volunteer in numerous community fundraising efforts. An active member of the Republican Party, Sherry has served as an officer for the Executive Committee, and is the current Vice-President of the Knox County Republican Women’s Club.
Sherry is a member of Corryton Church in northeast Knox County. She currently resides in the Fountain City area and has two daughters, Shay Witt and Chelsey Witt Gordon, son-in-law Shane Gordon, and two healthy and handsome grandsons, Seth and Grelyn Gordon.
