KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (July 16, 2018) – The New Harvest Park Farmers Market will host its third annual Corn and Tomato Festival on Thursday, July 26, with Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett ringing the bell to kick off the family-friendly event.
The festival will highlight corn and tomatoes and offer a number of activities and dozens of vendors. Attendees also can buy roasted corn, local meats, pastured eggs and fruits and vegetables.
The event will include the following contests:
- Kid's Corn Eating Race, 4 p.m. in the Picnic Pavilion. Whoever can finish eating their ear of corn first wins a prize.
- Beautiful/Ugly Homegrown Tomato Contests, 4 p.m. at the Picnic Pavilion. Drop off your heirloom homegrown tomatoes then and we will announce the winners at 4:30. First wins a prize.
In addition, officials at 4 p.m. in the pavilion will talk about corn and tomato production, preservation and problems for home gardeners.
The event also will include pressure canner testing by Knox County Extension.
