KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (June 14, 2018) – The Knox County Mayor’s Office and the Knox County Parks and Recreation Department will unveil a new canoe/kayak launch recently built near a popular fishing pier on Fort Loudoun Lake.
The event will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26 at the Concord Park Fishing Pier, 11550 S. Northshore Drive, just west of the traffic circle.
The launch, built earlier this year, came at the request of the Chota Canoe Club.
“It’s something that we needed, since the one at the Cove, which is located on the main channel, is often crowded with larger boats,” said Doug Bataille, senior director of the Knox County Parks and Recreation Department. “The water here is calmer and will provide better access to the creeks. This location also better serves those using canoes and kayaks during the winter, since the water level in the area is not as low as it is near the cove.”
Members of the Chota Canoe Club also will demonstrate how to use the launch as well as host a short clinic on using different touring strokes and performing rolls.
The club recently agreed to sponsor this particular area of Concord Park under the department’s Adopt-A-Park program.
