The Cove at Concord Park closed due to storm damage

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (May 28, 2017) - Knox County Parks and Recreation has closed The Cove at Concord Park after it sustained significant storm damage Saturday evening.

The department released this information via its Facebook page:

"The Cove is closed. We can't stress that enough. Please do not drive, swim, kayak, boat, etc. your way to it at this time. There are power lines down everywhere. There also are hanging branches that can still fall.

The rest of Concord Park, including the dog park, will remain open.

We hope to meet with contractors tomorrow to see how long it will take to clear the area. It's probably going to be several weeks. Our own staff also will begin clean up work on Tuesday, so long as the downed power lines are not hot. (The power companies are supposed to work on those today.)

At this time, we do not know how long The Cove will be closed.

We hope to still hold the free June 10 concert and free fishing day event there but - again - no promises. There's been a lot of damage and it's going to take time to remove the trees and clean it up. We will update our progress on Facebook and Twitter.

Again, thanks for your patience."
