KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (July 1, 2016) – This morning, Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett joined other elected officials, members of the Powell Business and Professional Association, and representatives from the Knox County Health Department, Smoke-Free Knoxville and Knox County Parks and Recreation for the grand opening of a new disc golf course at Powell Station Park, which is located at 2318 W Emory Rd.
"I’d like to thank my Parks staff who worked to make this course a reality. I know it’s something the community, and especially the members of the Powell Business & Professional Association, worked hard to make happen," said Mayor Burchett. "And thanks to the Knox County Health Department we were able to help pay for part of this project in a creative way by turning this disc golf course into an educational resource to discourage smoking."
The 9-hole course provides a smoke-free, family-friendly outdoor space for Knox County residents to enjoy. In addition to being a fun place to get some physical activity, Smoke-Free Knoxville and the Knox County Health Department partnered with Knox County Parks and Recreation and the Powell Business and Professional Association to make the disc golf course a unique educational experience about the hazards of tobacco use. Each hole has educational signs about the hazards of smoking tobacco.
