New Hire Orientation

All new Knox County Government employees and re-hires are required to attend our orientation program. Employees moving from non-benefited status to a benefited status should also plan to attend orientation at the time of the change in status.

Elected Officials

We strongly encourage all employees to attend our orientation program. However, some elected officials may have a separate orientation program. If you participate in another orientation program and find that you still have questions about your benefits please contact us at 215-2321.


Management of Benefits

The Department of Human Resources falls under the County Mayor. While we work under the County Mayor, we manage medical, dental, vision and flexible spending benefits for all County Government employees and elected officials. We can be reached at 215-2321.

The Retirement & Pension Board administers Retirement benefits & life insurance. You should direct any questions about these benefits to the Retirement Department at 215-2323. The Retirement & Pension Board is located in Suite 371, City County Building.


Location

New hire orientation is facilitated by the Knox County Human Resources Department. We are located in Suite 360, 3 rd Floor, City County Building. The City County Building is located at 400 Main Street, Knoxville, TN 37902.


Parking at Dwight Kessel Garage map

You may park in the Dwight Kessel Garage. Please take a ticket upon entering the garage. Bring your parking ticket into orientation for validation. Dwight Kessel Garage is located on the corner of Hill and State Street approximately one block from the City County Building.


Directions

From I-40E / I-75N : Take Exit 388A to James White Parkway. After merging onto Parkway, proceed past Summit Hill Drive Exit and merge into left lane. Bear left at fork and merge into right lane. Exit Hill Avenue and turn right at traffic light. Proceed around Hill Avenue and straight through traffic light at Hall of Fame Drive. Proceed across bridge and turn right onto State Street (a one way street). Enter Dwight Kessel garage on your right.

From I-40W: Bear left at Exit 388A to James White Parkway. Note that the exit ramp is on your left after you pass the Broadway Exit. After merging onto Parkway, proceed past Summit Hill Drive Exit and merge into left lane. Bear left at fork and merge into right lane. Exit Hill Avenue and turn right at traffic light. Proceed around Hill Avenue and straight through traffic light at Hall of Fame Drive. Proceed across bridge and turn right onto State Street (a one way street). Enter the Dwight Kessel garage on your right.

From I-75S / I-275S: As you approach downtown Knoxville, bear right at the sign reading “I-40E / Asheville / Henley Street.” This is a fly-over ramp across I-40. Once on the fly-over, merge to the left lane and follow the signs toward I-40E ( Asheville). The first exit after merging onto I-40E is Exit 388A. Take Exit 388A to James White Parkway. After merging onto Parkway, proceed past Summit Hill Drive Exit and merge into left lane. Bear left at fork and merge into right lane. Exit Hill Avenue and turn right at traffic light. Proceed around Hill Avenue and straight through traffic light at Hall of Fame Drive. Proceed across bridge and turn right onto State Street (a one way street). Enter Dwight Kessel garage on your right.

From South : Take US441 / Chapman Highway across the Henley Street Bridge. Turn right onto Main Street. Turn right on Gay Street and go one block to Hill Avenue. Turn left onto Hill Avenue and go one block to State Street on left. Turn left onto State Street (a one way street). Enter Dwight Kessel garage on your right.
