KCHD creates Power to Quit Program
Are you pregnant? Do you smoke?
Expectant moms have many new responsibilities, and for moms who smoke, quitting can be another big challenge. Many quit successfully all on their own, but many go back to smoking after their baby is born. Our free Power to Quit program is designed to give moms the support they need to quit for good.
Who can participate: Any pregnant woman living in Knox County who currently smokes or quit at some point during her pregnancy can join. Expectant moms can join any time during pregnancy, and the program continues monthly until the baby is 6 months old.
In addition, medical providers can partner with the Knox County Health Department to sign up their patients. Any health care providers who would like more information on how to easily sign up their patients can call 865-215-5170.
Program overview & incentive: Monthly sessions are approximately 15 minutes in length. Participants will have the opportunity to earn a $50 monthly gift card for meeting pre-set goals (gift cards are from Target, Babies R Us or CVS).
What participants will learn: Tips for quitting, benefits to quitting, the importance of support, the risks to the baby, the risks to the mom, tips to change habits, risks of smoking after the baby is born, risks of secondhand smoke and a variety of other topics based on participant interest.
Contact information: Please call 865-215-5170 or email Kerri.Thompson@knoxcounty.org for more information, including how to schedule a session.
