March is National Nutrition Month

Created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, National Nutrition Month® is designed to promote informed food choices and the development of sound eating and physical activity habits.

Consumer research shows that taste is the most influential factor driving what we eat. This year’s message, “Enjoy the taste of eating right,” focuses on ways to create healthy meals that taste great. Check out these tips from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics:

  • Explore a variety of veggie toppings for pizza, such as broccoli, peppers, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms and zucchini.
  • Try a breakfast smoothie made with low-fat milk, frozen strawberries or blueberries, and a banana.
  • Roll up a veggie wrap with roasted vegetables and low-fat cheese using a whole-wheat tortilla.
  • Swap your chips for vegetables and your favorite low-fat salad dressing for dipping.
  • Place colorful fruit where family members can easily grab it for a quite snack on the run.
  • Puree apples, berries, peaches or pears in a blender for a thick, sweet sauce on grilled seafood or poultry. Try this sauce on your pancakes, French toast or waffles instead of syrup.
