KAPPI's Samples on the Square

Foodies united as Samples on the Square returned to tantalize taste buds. The fourth annual event to benefit the Knox Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (KAPPI) was Aug. 15 on Market Square.

"Samples on the Square is a rare and fun opportunity to try amazing dishes from multiple restaurants in one night, all while benefiting a very worthy cause," said KAPPI Coordinator Cynthia Hudson. "KAPPI has made a significant impact in our community in the past few years in large part due to the vital funds raised at this event."

As the name implies, Samples on the Square featured tasty specialties from downtown eateries, including:

  • Blue Coast Burrito
  • Bella Luna
  • Cafe 4
  • Cocoa Moon
  • Latitude 35
  • Rita's
  • Shonos in City
  • Steamboat
  • Trio

The band Patriot Rising entertained guests from the Market Square stage. Bliss also stepped up to support the cause by giving attendees the opportunity to register for a $50 gift card.

Since 1991, KAPPI has encouraged community-wide support for teen pregnancy prevention under the auspices of the Knox County Health Department. KAPPI?s mission is to prevent adolescent pregnancy through a comprehensive effort that promotes abstinence, self respect, and responsible decision making about sexuality and other health issues. Currently there are more than 30 organizations represented on KAPPI, including Knox County Schools, Boys and Girls Club of TN Valley, United Health Care, YWCA, YMCA and BlueCare Tennessee. KAPPI is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, donations are tax deductible. Proceeds from Samples on the Square will fund KAPPI?s operating budget for the next 12 months.
