2019 Commission Retreat - FINAL DETAILS

Postby Larsen Jay on Mon Jun 24, 2019 4:14 pm

Commissioners,

I would like to send everyone final confirmation and details of our 2019 Strategic Retreat.

The retreat will be held on Friday, July 26 & Saturday, July 27th at Johnson University (8:00 am - 4:00 pm). A copy of the retreat agenda has been emailed to you directly.

As outlined in our discussions and in the agenda, we believe that it is important to hear from the five major stakeholders within Knox County (Mayor/Schools/Health Dept./Sheriff/Planning) to hear their vision for Knox County in the coming 3-5 years. We have asked each stakeholder to share an (up-to 30 minute) presentation to the participating Commissioners outlining their broad-stroke vision for our county. Topics presented might include...big ideas, major worries, unique opportunities, bold visions, incremental adjustments, effectiveness/efficiencies, etc. Essentially, what do the stakeholders see as it relates to their unique role, responsibility and perspective within Knox County and how can they help us understand that better. Ultimately, if this strategic retreat is going to be successful, we believe the Commissioners should understand and incorporate the stakeholder's ideas into theirs, so all parties walk away on the same page, united in a common Knox County vision.

If anyone has questions about the retreat, please reach out directly to me or our facilitator, Dr. Jerry Askew at 865-313-2077 / jaskew@betternonprofits.org .

A few housekeeping notes:

- Johnson University is roughly 20-30 minutes from downtown Knoxville. The address is 7900 Johnson Dr. / 37998. Please leave ample travel and preparation time.

- The retreat will be held in the second floor meeting rooms in the ARC sports complex/center towards the front of the main campus. Parking is directly in front of the building and we will have someone there and/or signage to direct attendees.

- Our retreat schedule is very full with content and very tight on time. Please help us stick to the schedule to insure ample time for everyone to participate.

- This retreat is open to the public and media, either may be present anytime throughout the two-day retreat.

- Following the retreat, our facilitator (Dr. Jerry Askew) will be providing Commission and all stakeholders with a summary document of the presentations, ideas and walk-away findings for all parties to use as an ongoing resource. We expect to have this report in time to present at the August Commission Work Session.

Thank you in advance for your time and participation,

Commissioner Jay
