Hugh Nystrom is serving in his first term on the Knox County Commission, having been elected to represent the 4th District in August 2016. Born and raised in the 4th District, Hugh attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School and the Webb School of Knoxville. He graduated from the University of Tennessee’s College of Business, with a degree in Finance.
For the past 10 years, Hugh has served as the Director of Program Operations and Community Relations for Childhelp Tennessee. Prior to Childhelp, he worked for 14 years for the Walt Disney Company, serving in a variety of leadership positions.
Hugh’s community involvement includes serving on the University of Tennessee College of Nursing Advisory Board, the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking Task Force, the Executive Committee of the 2014 Congressional Medal of Honor Convention, the Board of Directors of The MUSE Children’s Museum, the Junior League of Knoxville Advisory Board, and the University Swim Club Board of Directors. He is a member of Nucleus Knoxville and the Knoxville Downtown Civitan Club, where he previously served as President. Hugh is currently a Cub Master for the Boy Scouts of America and previously served as an Upward Soccer coach.
Hugh is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Knoxville and a 2011 graduate of East Tennessee Regional Leadership Alliance.
Hugh and his wife, Angelia, live in the Westmoreland neighborhood with their son, Trace.
