Electronic Waste Collection
Computer monitors and televisions are hazardous because they contain significant amounts of lead. Printed circuit boards contain hazardous metals such as lead, chromium, cadmium and mercury, with significant variation depending on the board. Mercury-containing components like switches and relays are found in some electronic and electrical products. Recycling old electronic equipment keeps hazardous materials out of landfills and makes it possible to recover these materials from the existing supply instead of depleting the natural resources. In some instances ewaste events and ewaste recycling programs help organizations raise funds and/or generate revenue from the materials that are sold after recovery.
Permanent Collection Program
Household electronic waste is accepted for free for recycling at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility during their normal business hours. Charges may apply for businesses. See the HHW website for more details.
