Thank you for visiting the Knox County Retirement & Pension Board website! This site is designed to help employees, disability participants and retirees of Knox County Government and Knox County Schools (classified) stay informed of their benefits for Retirement, Disability, Basic and Supplemental Life Insurance, Medical Expense Retirement Plan and Medical Insurance for retirees and disability participants.


Retirement Session Location:

The Retirement Sessions that will be held on Thursday, June 17th (9 a.m., 11 a.m., & 3 p.m.) will be held in the HR Conference Room on the 3rd Floor.


Knox County Mandatory Retirement Sessions

The Knox County Retirement & Pension Board, the Knox County Mayor, Sheriff, and Fee Office Holders, along with USI Consulting Group are working together to conduct mandatory retirement sessions to all Knox County Government employees eligible for participation in the Retirement System.  

These retirement sessions will be covered in three phases:

  1. Retirement Plan overview specific to your retirement plan for those participants in the Asset Accumulation Plan, UOPP, and STAR.
  2. Investment education for the Asset Accumulation Plan and STAR.
  3. Planning for Retirement for Asset Accumulation Plan, UOPP, and STAR.

We are currently holding meetings for Phase 1 of the Asset Accumulation Plan.  Our goal is to have class sizes of about 25, which means there will be about 100 classes just to cover Phase 1 of the Asset Accumulation Plan. We have set up this email address retirement.sessions@knoxcounty.org for questions regarding the Educational Classes and this website http://retirementeducation.myevent.com/ for scheduling employees at specific meetings.  Please consult with your department head before scheduling your session.  We are working to accommodate each department’s needs with Knox County Government.

Fund Changes

New Funds Added
The Knox County Retirement & Pension Board along with USI Consulting Group have agreed to add two (2) new stand alone funds to the Asset Accumulation Plan, Knox County Voluntuary 457(b), and the Sheriff’s Total Accumulation Retirement Plan (STAR).

These stand alone funds will be added automatically on May 1, 2015, and will not require a blackout for the system.

  1. Oppenheimer International Small Co. A (OSMAX), the category is Foreign Small/Mid Growth
  2. Ivy Science & Technology A (WSTAX), the category is Technology

MSF Name Change
The MSF Research Bond Fund has been renamed to MFS Total Return Bond Fund as of March 31, 2015. This change occurred automatically, an no action is required.

15th Annual Retiree Luncheon

The Knox County Retirement & Pension Board is pleased to announce the 15th Annual Retiree Luncheon held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Rothchild Catering & Conference Center. This luncheon is held in appreciation to our retirees who have worked for Knox County Government and Knox County Schools (as classified employees). Please be our guest at this annual event. Supplemental Life Insurance Premium Error

There was a system error in the amount of the deduction for Employee Supplemental Life Insurance for the payroll dated 3/13/2015. We are aware of the error and will have it corrected by the next payroll. Your insurance coverage will NOT be affected. The premium is actually less than what should have been deducted.

We will send another notification if any changes are going to be made regarding the premium amount.
