Dirty Lot Ordinance

Knox County wishes to provide for the preservation of the property, health and safety of the citizens in this community by encouraging property owners to maintain their lots in a clean and safe fashion.  The Dirty Lot Ordinance helps to create a system by which dirty, overgrown and/or unsafe properties may be cleaned and restored to a safe condition.  The Ordinance addresses the existence of the following within the county:

  • Unkempt residential lots containing excessively high grass and underbrush and/or other uncontrolled vegetation that is both unsightly and dangerous;
  • The maintenance of abandoned dwellings or structures and portions of those buildings that may be unfit for human habitation; and
  • Unauthorized and unlawful dumping; among other things.

Knox County will address these problem properties through the Codes Enforcement Office.  To report a dirty lot, contact the Office of Neighborhoods at 215-HELP or email neighborhoods@knoxcounty.org.
