Knox County’s Director of Air Quality Management, Lynne Liddington, has been elected to the position of Co-Vice President of the National Association of Clean Air Agencies (NACCA). She previously served as co-treasurer of the national organization.
NACAA represents air pollution control agencies in 53 states and territories and over 165 major metropolitan areas across the United States. The association was formed over 30 years ago by state and local air pollution control offices to improve their effectiveness as managers of air quality programs. The associations serve to encourage the exchange of information among air pollution control officials, to enhance communication and cooperation among federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, and to promote good management of our air resources.
Of her new position within NACAA, Liddington says, “This position provides me the opportunity to be heard by and work closely with key US EPA officials and political leaders to achieve clean air faster, while at the same time protecting jobs and resources in our community.”
Mayor Mike Ragsdale applauded Liddington's accomplishment, saying, “Lynne is a great member of the Knox County team and we are proud to have her representing us on this association. I know she will be an outstanding example of the type of employees we have here in Knox County and work hard to promote our community goals and ideas concerning air quality.”
Liddington is the County’s Director of Air Quality and has served in this capacity since 1999, but has been with Air Quality since 1981. Currently serves as the Chair of the Knox County Employee Green Team, as a mentor for KnoxAchieves and is a member of the Knoxville Chamber Governmental Relations Committee. She is also the former two time president of METRO-4 and member of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 organization of local air directors in the southeastern United States.
