Knoxville (Sept. 27, 2013) — More than 800 Knox County seniors came out to John Tarleton Park today for the 7th annual Knox County Mayor's Senior Appreciation Picnic. This year's picnic had the highest attendance ever.
Senior citizens were treated to a free barbecue lunch with sides, live music, free Mayfield Ice Cream, and a mini-health fair.
"Our seniors have spent their lives working and serving their community and their country, and they deserve to be thanked for all they have done and continue to do,"Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett said. "Community Outreach Director Hemal Tailor and the Knox County Senior Center staff, our private sponsors and volunteers all came together to once again make this year’s picnic a great event."
The mini-health fair included free blood pressure checks, information about estate planning, and senior health and fitness education.
