Mayor proclaims 'California to Carolina for the Cure' day

KNOXVILLE (Sept. 3, 2013) -- Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett proclaimed today "California to Carolina for the Cure Day" in Knox County in honor of two Stanford University students who passed through town as part of a two-month bicycle treck from coast to coast to raise awareness and money for cancer treatment.

Nick Abram and Chris Min have both lost loved ones to cancer.  Nick lost his mother, and Chris lost his grandfather.

The two decided that they wanted to do something extreme to help raise funds for cancer care at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.  That "something" turned into a cross country bick ride, from Stanford, Calif. to Durham, N.C.  They started their journy on July 9, and passed through Knoxville today.

When Mayor Burchett learned of their effort, he arranged to meet them and proclaimed today "California to Carolina for the Cure Day" in Knox County.  CLICK HERE to read a copy of the proclamation.
