Knoxville (Aug. 10, 2011) -- Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett released the following statement Wednesday following the Knox County Board of Education’s vote on whether to build a new Carter Elementary School:
“Today is a good day for the children, parents and teachers in the Carter community, and the Knox County Board of Education and Knox County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre deserve our thanks. So many Carter residents have spent the past several years fighting for a new, much-needed elementary school, and now it is closer to reality.
“The hard work of School Board Member Mike McMillan and Commissioner Dave Wright should not go unrecognized. They were a part of this process every step of the way, and they remain committed to representing East Knox County.
“Our focus now shifts to working closely with the Knox County Commission to ensure that this school gets built and paid for without increasing the County’s debt beyond what would have been the cost of renovations.”
