Bright Start Wellness Program

In 2001, like most employers, Knox County Government was looking for new ways to combat rising healthcare costs. Our hope was to increase employee health awareness, encourage employee responsibility, and improve morale. With this in mind, we began thinking about an employee wellness program.

A large committee of Knox County employees from various departments was formed. These employees assisted in research, program parameters, communication, and recruitment. The Knox County Health Department and local hospitals provided medical expertise in developing our program.

In the spring of 2001, the Knox County Bright Start Wellness Program was launched! The intention of Bright Start is to increase employee morale and create opportunities for employees to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Knox County employees are rewarded based on their activity that is conducive to a healthy lifestyle.

Members keep track of all exercise, community work, relaxation, screenings, programs and much more on their monthly tracking form. Tracking forms are to be submitted once per month to the Bright Start staff. Activities are reviewed and points are awarded. The Bright Start staff sends employees quarterly statements showing their progress, and members may claim prizes at that time.

Bright Start also partners with various companies in the Knoxville/Knox County area to provide lunch and learns to employees. Lunch and learns are free and open to all Knox County employees.

The Bright Start staff is committed to giving employees a quality wellness program. Our hope is that Knox County employees are more aware and more proactive in their lifestyle choices!
