Start Smart is an interactive program that provides information to parents about good prenatal care and child brain development. Current knowledge supports the view that parenting plays the major role in brain development and establishing protective factors in early life.* When developing biological systems are strengthened with positive early experiences, children are more likely to grow into healthy adults.
Start Smart classes take place monthly at the Knox County Health Department’s main location, 140 Dameron Ave. For more information including the class schedule, please call 865-215-5170.
Funding for this program was provided in part by the Youth Endowment of the East Tennessee Foundation.*Source: Landry et al. 2003;Lugo-Gil & Tamis-LeMonda, 2008
