Knox County Health Department Presents Forum on the Impact of Teen Pregnancy on our Community

National Women's Health Week is May 13-19, 2007

National Women's Health Week is observed every year to focus attention on educating women about making healthy lifestyle choices and the importance of taking appropriate health-related actions based on individual background and risk factors. This year's theme is "It's Your Time! Pamper Your Mind, Body and Spirit." As part of this year's celebration, Ms. Sandra Burke, president and CEO of Girls Incorporated of Memphis and former assistant commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Children's Services, will present a forum on "Impact of Teen Pregnancy on Our Community" from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 18, in the auditorium of the main Health Department at 140 Dameron Avenue. Ms. Burke will highlight the impact teen pregnancy has on our economy and the generation of children born to children. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Refreshments will be served at 9:30, followed by a brief update from the Knox Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (KAPPI) and Ms. Burke's address. The public also will be able to meet representatives from KAPPI partner organizations and learn about their efforts toward reducing teen pregnancy rates in our area.
