Medical providers and other health care professionals are asked to join us to learn more about breastfeeding basics, risks associated with infant formula, and how to better promote, support and protect breastfeeding in the community.

The Supporting Successful Breastfeeding seminar takes place Friday, March 24 from 7:30 – 10:45 a.m. in the Wood Auditorium at UT Medical Center, 1924 Alcoa Highway. This event is not open to the public.

To register, click here. Then click on March 24 and select the event to register.

Speakers include Dr. Richard Thigpen (OB/GYN, Women's Care Group) and Dr. Tara Burnette (Neonatologist, Regional Neonatal Associates). A panel discussion will follow their presentations.

CEUs for RNs, RDNs, IBCLCs, and CLCs will be provided, and this training fulfills the three-hour education requirements for Baby-Friendly USA.

Breakfast will be catered and parking will be provided free of charge.

Research has shown that there is no better food than breastmilk for a baby’s first year of life. Breastfed babies:

  • are less likely to have ear infections, asthma and allergies
  • have less vomiting, diarrhea and colic
  • lower the risk of SIDS, obesity, diabetes and childhood cancers
