Knox County Health Department (KCHD) has received nine confirmed reports of Shigellosis in Knox County. Shigellosis is a contagious bacterial diarrhea illness. To date, the cases have been concentrated in the Powell Community area and the majority of the cases involve students at Powell Elementary. Because Shigellosis can be spread from person-to-person contact, KCHD would like to make the public aware of the outbreak in order to slow down the spread. KCHD is also working with Knox County Schools to get information to parents about Shigellosis.
