Knox County Health Department will be coming to your child’s school to administer intranasal H1N1 vaccine soon. Dates will be based on when vaccine becomes available. If you haven’t sent in your consent form you may still do so.
If your child is under 10 and has already received their first H1N1 vaccine they do not need their second until at least 21 days after the first dose. If your child is 10 or over they only need one dose of H1N1 vaccine.
If your child may have had H1N1, to be safe we recommend they get vaccinated. It is totally safe and will just ensure they are protected.
Flu antivirals, such as Tamiflu or Relenza, should not be taken less than 48 hours before getting the intranasal vaccine. If your child has taken either of these medications less than 48 hours prior to the date your child’s school is to be vaccinated please send a note to the school office by the day before the scheduled clinic so that Knox County Health Department can pull their consent form.
You will receive phone notification of the exact date for your child’s school.
All intranasal flu vaccines need to separated by at least 21 days.
You may also get a consent form from your child’s school.
