1. East Knoxville Community

Volunteers Needed: 
What to wear:  outdoor clothing, sunscreen, bug spray, bring a water bottle
Host is providing:  plants, tools
Activities:  weeding and planting seven large planters in front of school

2. Halls Community

Project:  Halls High School Outdoor Classroom (4321 E. Emory Road, 37938)

Time:  10:00 am-2:00 pm
Volunteers Needed:  20
What to wear:  closed toed shoes (preferably boots), long pants, long sleeve shirt
Host is providing:  all tools and supplies, sunscreen, bug spray, first aid, water and snacks
Activities:  exotic plant removal, trail renewal, weeding, planting, trash pick up
Note:  You don’t have to come for the entire four hours.  Just let Parci know what times you plan to be there.

3. Mechanicsville Community

Project: 
Beardsley Community Farm planting (1719 Reynolds Ave., 37921)

Volunteers Needed:  no limit
What to wear:  closed toed shoes (preferably boots), sunscreen, bug spray, bring a water bottle
Host is providing:  all tools and supplies
Activities:  Volunteers will be digging and planting and having tons of fun!  Activities will include planting an apple orchard and planting vegetables in two sixty-foot long raised beds for Food in the Fort (food pantry). Food in the Fort provides 80 families with food each week; come join us in an effort to support their work.

4. North East Knox Community  (completed)

Project:  Corryton Park Picnic Shelter (7737 Corryton Road, 37721)
Students from Johnson Bible College completed this project on Thursday, September 9, 2009 as part of their K9 Service Day.

5. Ridgedale Community

Project:  Ridgedale Alternative School (4600 Ridgedale Road, 37921)

Time:  10:00 am-4:00 pm
Volunteers Needed:  12
What to wear:  outdoor clothing, sunscreen, bug spray, bring a water bottle
Volunteers are asked to provide:  rakes, gloves, gardening tools
Activities:  need some volunteers to make that school look better on the outside so those learning on the inside can take pride in their school.  Volunteers will do general grounds improvement and planting to make the entryway more welcoming.

6. Powell Community

7. South Knox Community

What to wear:  outdoor clothing, sunscreen, bug spray, bring a water bottle
Volunteers are asked to provide:  rakes, gloves, gardening tools
Activities:  need volunteers to rake mulch in the playground area to smooth out dips and to re-establish a small garden area in the back of the school that has become overgrown with weeds over time.

8. West Knox Community

Project:  Pedestrian Bridge between Concord Road and The Cove at Concord Park, approximately 11399 Northshore Drive.

What to wear:  clothing suitable for painting, sunscreen, bug spray, bring a water bottle
Host is providing:  paint and some tools
Volunteers are asked to provide:  wire brushes and paint brushes, if possible
Activities:  We are sprucing up the old bridge that has become a pedestrian walkway and part of the greenway trail on Northshore Drive. The railings are rusty and unsightly, so we need volunteers to help Parks and Recreation staff scrape, prime and paint them.  Hosts:  Knox County Parks and Recreation


9. Fitness Community

Project:  Volunteer fitness teachers for Senior Fitness Day on 9/11

What to wear:  appropriate fitness attire
Activities:  teach free fitness and/or wellness classes at Strang, Carter, Corryton, South Knox or Halls Senior Centers on September 11.

10.  Medical Community

Project:  Knox County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).

Volunteers Needed:  no limit
Activities:  The Knox County Health Department is calling for medical and non-medical volunteers for the Knox County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). When called upon, volunteers will participate in community preparedness activities, such as exercises for shelters, mass prophylaxis, vaccination clinics, and other emergency scenarios.
