If you’ve driven by New Harvest Park in the last couple days you may have spotted the Mayor…Mayor Mike Hay Bale that is. Mayor Mike Hay Bale, the scarecrow mayor of Scarecrows in the Park, can be found reading with some young scarecrows to promote partner Mayor Mike Ragsdale’s Read With Me program. He certainly isn’t alone though! The Knox County Mayor’s Office entry to the Scarecrows in the Park can be found among some 26 other homemade scarecrows submitted by several other county departments, community organizations and individuals.
Don’t miss your chance to see all these wonderful fall creations and vote on your favorite! Winners will be announced on Saturday at the Harvest Festival, though the scarecrows will remain up through the end of October.
This weekend, New Harvest Park isn’t only the gathering place for local scarecrows, it’s the location of the Harvest Festival open from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on October 24. The event will feature storytellers from the Smoky Mountain Storytelling Association and the Knox County Public Library, pumpkin painting and bowling, and Farmer’s Market vendors.
