In July, Knox County will kick off its Energy Sustainability and Efficiency Project, to modernize, renovate and repair over 60 County facilities. Our goal is to add technologies that have innovative applications so that we can maximize energy efficiency and sustainability across the County.
This activity is a follow on to the work we have done in the Knox County School System. In December 2006, the County entered in to an agreement with Trane Commercial Systems to conduct energy audits throughout the County. As a result of these audits, the County has implemented over $11 million in energy conservation measures within the School System. In the immediate future, we anticipate that $2 million of energy efficiency improvements and conservation measures will be funded through federal stimulus dollars. Knox County is applying for these funds through the Department of Energy this month.
To move forward with the County-wide work, Trane is now taking bids from companies who want to provide one or more of the necessary construction/contracting disciplines to complete a project of this size and nature. These areas include, but are not limited to electrical, plumbing and mechanical. Those interested in pursuing contracting opportunities on this project should contact Owen Nevader with Trane. He may be reached at 865-588-0607, ext. 4287.
