One of the most important missions of the Knox County Criminal Court Clerk is the collection of restitution. In the criminal justice system, the term “restitution” means payments by an offender to a crime victim for the harm caused by the offender's wrongful acts. Courts have the authority to order convicted offenders to pay restitution to victims as part of their sentences. Since September 1, 2014, Mike Hammond’s Offices have collected a total of $2,612,672.48, all of which has been directly distributed to victims.
