How can I post bond?
If bond has been set, an individual can post a bond in several different ways. The ideal way is a cash bond. The total amount of bond is paid in cash to General Sessions Court, Criminal Division during office hours (Monday – Thursday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm) or to the Knox County Detention Facility (located on Maloneyville Road) outside Sessions Office hours. That money will be held by the Clerk's Office until a disposition is rendered. If court costs are assessed, the cash bond will be used and any remaining will be refunded.
Another method to post bond is through a bail bonding company. A bonding company charges 10% of the amount of bond plus a $25 service charge and a $12 state tax. You can find a list of bail bonding companies in the yellow pages under "bail".
Yet another method of posting bond is by using land as collateral. If a property bond is the method you choose, contact an attorney for more details.
