Doug Bataille, Senior Director, Parks and Recreation

Doug BatailleDoug Bataille has served as Senior Director of Parks and Recreation since 1993. He holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Ohio University and a master's degree in Parks and Recreation Administration from Indiana University. Bataille has worked in recreation for 25 years, including work with the Navy and the YMCA.

As Senior Director of Parks and Recreation, Bataille oversees the development and maintenance of county and regional parks and trails for recreational use. His department manages nearly 3,000 acres of park and recreation land, 15 types of athletic facilities and 800 sports teams. Over 50 programs, services and events, are available to citizens. Through strong partnerships with community and neighborhood organizations, opportunities for sports, recreation and leisure activities are offered in every sector of Knox County.

Bataille has been involved in local and state organizations including serving as President of the Tennessee Recreation and Park Association. He also serves as a board member for Ijams Nature Center, Knox Area Junior Golf Association, the Wee Course at Williams Creek, the Great Smoky Mountains Regional Greenway System, and Character Counts Knoxville. He has also served as the Tennessee Recreation and Park Association County Representative and as one of the National Recreation and Park Association Southern Regional Representatives from Tennessee. He is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Knoxville.

Bataille is married with two children and is involved in youth sports, coaching basketball, soccer and track.
