The following summarizes how information transmitted through the Knox County Commission web site is used.

Personal Information

Knox County Government does not collect or distribute any personal identifying information about its users. Any personal information submitted through forms or email from the user is considered public information and may be subject to inspection upon request as governed by the Tennessee Open Records Act, Tenn. Code Ann. Section 10-7-503. However, the County will not release this information for distribution to outside organizations or businesses for commercial purposes. Knox County Government does not use its web site to collect personal information for any purpose other than to respond to a user's request or input, or to complete an online transaction as more fully described below.

Gathered Information

Knox County Government periodically gathers tracking information while users are on this site. This information helps resolve the popularity of our site by various user actions such as web site traffic, page views, number of visitors, etc. Also, the County gathers limited information about its users' connections to our site including the Internet Protocol (IP) address, computer and connection information such as browser type and version, operating system and platform, the full Uniform Resource Locator (URL) click stream to, through and from our web site including date and time. An IP address is a number on each computer that determines where information is sent from web servers. This does not identify a user (such as email address), only a computer.

Security

Unless a particular page on this web site indicates that encryption technology is being used, the user should not assume that information uploaded through that web page to the Knox County web server will be treated as confidential. If a user submits information to the server through a page containing visible indicators of active encryption technology, the County will take all reasonable precautions to safeguard the confidentiality of such information, but shall nevertheless not be held liable for any injury caused by the disclosure of that information whether caused by security breach, accident, inadvertence or any other act resulting in disclosure.
