The County Commission meets in regular session on the Fourth Monday each month in the Large Assembly Room of the City-County Building. Special meetings are sometimes scheduled. Should the meeting fall on a legal holiday, the meeting is held on Tuesday of that week.

Ordinances
To be considered, a proposed ordinance must be furnished every commissioner by title five days, and in full a minimum of 48 hours before a meeting. To be enacted, the proposal must be read twice and receive a majority "aye" vote of the members of the Commission (10). Unless vetoed by the County Mayor, the ordinance becomes effective on the 15th day following passage.

An emergency ordinance may be added to the agenda of any Commission meeting at which there is a quorum present by unanimous consent. If enacted by a majority vote and if not vetoed by the County Mayor, the emergency ordinance becomes effective eight days following its passage.

All ordinances, emergency ordinances, and resolutions are submitted to the County Mayor for approval or veto, except for resolutions authorizing the borrowing of monies by various debt instruments and ordinances, emergency ordinances, and resolutions that affect zoning regulations. These exceptions are effective immediately upon their adoption by the Commission.
