Roads
If you have a road problem, including drainage or flooding, please feel free to contact your Commissioner. Commissioners are always happy to contact the Knox County Department of Engineering and Public Works on behalf of constituents. Keep in mind that all roads outside the corporate limits are maintained by the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation. Commissioners do frequently contact City of Knoxville and State officials on behalf of constituents.
Zoning
The Knox County Commission is empowered to pass on zoning issues after they have been heard before the Metropolitan Planning Commission. You can determine if a particular zoning is being heard through the Knox County Commission Agenda for the month. If you have a question, please do not hesitate to contact the Knox County Commission office.

High School Scholarships Program
The Knox County High School Scholarships Program is an important investment in the greatest resource our community has, our young people. To assure that Knox County continues to attract and retain high quality jobs and investment in the future, we must have a workforce with the technical skills that companies need to compete globally. The Knox County Commission and the Development Corporation of Knox County developed the High School Scholarships Program to recognize outstanding students in Knox County and to attract more young people to exciting career opportunities that exist in manufacturing in our community.
The High School Scholarships Program will provide fees and tuition for 2 graduates from each Knox County high school for four semesters at Pellissippi State Technical Community College. If you are interested in applying for these funds ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements, fill out the enclosed application, attach your high school transcripts, and mail it to: Robin Holt at The Development Corporation, 601 W. Criteria for Eligibility and Participation:
- Student must be a resident of Knox County.
- The eligible degree programs are: 1) Civil Engineering Technology, 2) Computer Integrated Drafting and Design Technology, 3) Electrical Engineering Technology, 4) Mechanical Engineering Technology, 5) Computer Science and Information Technology, and 6) Engineering Transfer Programs. The engineering transfer programs are for students planning to earn a baccalaureate degree at a four-year college or university. The transfer program allows students to complete the first two years at Pellissippi State and then transfer to a four0year institution. Interested students should consult with an advisor at Pellissippi State regarding the transfer program.
- Student must meet Pellissippi State Technical Community College entrance requirements. Student must have scored a 19 or above on the ACT in subject areas. Student testing at the DSM 0840 level in Math or DSE 0820 in English or the DSR 0810 level in Reading will be eligible to enter the program provided they meet all eligibility requirements.
- The Development Corporation will provide funding for a maximum of 14 hours of remedial work per student.
- This grant will cover $200 toward the cost of books per student on a reimbursement basis. Students will need to submit proof of payment of $200 in expenses to The Development Corporation and will receive a one-time check in the amount of $200.
- Student must be enrolled as a full-time student, summer enrollment is not required.
- Student must have a 2.5 GPA to enroll in the program and maintain a 2.5 GPA while enrolled.
- Applications must be submitted by April 21, 2003.
- Student failing prerequisites or dropping out for personal reasons who is no longer in the proper course sequence may be denied continued enrollment or be required to wait until he or she can enroll in the proper course sequence.
- Student earning an F grade and meeting the GPA requirement will need to repeat the failed course at his or her own expense. A withdrawal will be counted as an F for the requirement.
- Student must be graduating from a Knox County High School this school year 2002-2003 and begin classes at Pellissippi State in the Fall Semester, August 2003.
