Sam McKenzie was appointed to the Knox County Commission on February 20, 2008 and subsequently elected to a partial term in August 2008. Commissioner McKenzie won the 2010 Commission race for the 1st District and will serve the citizens of his community for a 6 year term.
Commissioner McKenzie earned his BS in Physics from Fisk University in Nashville and his MS in Solid State Physics from the University of Memphis. He currently holds the position of Site Operations Manager at Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), serving as the Complex Facility Manager for SNS at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Sam McKenzie is a member of the East Tennessee Chapter Health Physics Society and a graduate of the Leadership Knoxville Class of 2005. He is a Minorities in Research Council Honoree and a recipient of the Fisk University Alumni Leadership Award.
Commissioner McKenzie and his wife, Gwendolyn have 3 children, Samuel Jr., Malik and Carmeron. The McKenzies reside at 411 Carta Road.
